Funding & Monetary Glossary
This page defines the official terms used to describe the financial, funding, and reward mechanisms of WikiDeal.
Core Concepts
- Donation (Financial Contribution)
- A financial gift made by an early supporter during the bootstrapping phase to fund the platform's R&D and operations. Donations are made without any guarantee of repayment or reward.
- Validated Work
- Time, skills, or resources (e.g., code, legal writing, translations) contributed to an Open Call or a recognized task, which has been formally validated by the community.
The Reward System
- Rewards
- The generic, official term for the value earned by early supporters, either through a Donation or through Validated Work. Rewards are initially theoretical and are activated as the platform generates subscription revenue.
- (Deprecated terms: Cash Rewards, Credits, Memberships, Miles)
- Personal Portion (Part personnelle)
- The fraction of activated Rewards that a contributor chooses to retain for their own personal project within the ecosystem. This portion constitutes taxable income for the contributor.
- Community Portion (Part communautaire)
- The fraction of activated Rewards that a contributor allocates to community projects from the WikiDeal catalogue. This acts as a second donation and is not individually taxable.
Ecosystem Tokens
- Karma Tokens
- Internal exchange rights or reputation markers awarded for volunteering, semi-volunteering, and community assistance. They are distinct from financial Rewards and are used to track non-financial contributions and grant certain privileges within the ecosystem.
Revenue & Operations
- Operational Budget
- The minimum monthly revenue (e.g., CHF 25,000) required to keep the WikiDeal platform running, covering project coordination, governance, and administration. It is prioritized over Reward distributions.
- Subscriptions
- The general user fee (starting at CHF 1/month) granting access to the platform and contract templates. Subscription revenue is the primary source of funds used to activate Rewards.
- Commissions
- Fees applied to transactions made on the platform, calculated at real cost. They are split between the User Group operating the service and the WikiDeal platform infrastructure.
