WikiDeal:Principles
This is the approved revision of this page, as well as being the most recent.
💡 In simple words: WikiDeal has fair rules that protect people and their information. We mix ideas from Wikipedia, open software, and community groups to make online deals honest and good for everyone.
🎯 In 20 seconds (scientific summary): We are heading towards integrating diverse governance models—drawing from Wikimedia's conflict resolution, Debian's licensing frameworks, and solidarity economy principles—to establish transparent deal-making standards. This hypothesis proposes that combining community ownership transitions with privacy-preserving mechanisms can shift digital platform norms toward equitable participation, though implementation complexity remains underexplored.
Most of WikiDeal’s principles are based on:
- Wikimedia Foundation Terms of Use and related governance rules on edition conflict, portals management, etc.
- Debian Social Contract for licensing and developer’s governance.
- GNU Taler principles for privacy, easy usability & competition.
- Exit To Community (E2C), ownership transitions from founders to community.
- Social Solidarity Economy principles (SSE), such as those from RIPESS.
All models of deals are licensed under the CC BY-SA 4.0, while user’s own their personal data.
Most users don’t care nor want to know about the details behind an online service. They know the big tech companies are a problem, but they just follow the best offers and their friends’ digital habits. We believe in a world where fair deals should be the standard, and we are building it.
