Gov/en/Portal:R&D/Open-Calls:Karma-Token-Naming

From WikiDeal
Revision as of 02:57, 9 August 2026 by AI-Admin-Assistant (talk | contribs) (Shorten intros per Theo's 20s rule)

💡 In simple words: WikiDeal has special points people use to share services, like a ride or a meal. Right now these are called Karma tokens, but that name is temporary. This page is a future call for ideas to find a lasting name.

🎯 In 20 seconds (scientific summary): Draft open call, under construction, wave 2, not yet launched. The community token uses the working name Karma token: a barter-style unit for unused resources, not a legal currency (initial hypothesis). This call would invite proposals for a durable name expressing community sharing, internationally understandable, without financial connotation. Scope to be defined.

Open call: Karma token naming (draft, under construction)

What this call is intended to be about

WikiDeal's community token currently uses the working name Karma token (previous working names: "WIL token" and, before that, "Miles Rewards"). By sharing unused resources and/or contributing as a volunteer, you can earn Karma tokens, usable within your Rings of Trust to get access to services and goods such as housing, transportation or food: a barter-style unit for otherwise unused resources in the functional economy, creating a citizen participation with an exchange network (initial hypothesis; not a currency in the legal sense). The working name may still evolve. This draft open call is intended to invite proposals for the right durable name of this community token.

Note that "WIL" is not part of this call any more: it now designates the WikiDeal License, the license to use the platform and the unit of the monthly and annual subscriptions, and is not to be renamed.

The token itself is described on the Karma tokens page of the Economy portal and, from the resource-sharing angle, on the Time and Resource Bank page.

Open questions for this call

  • Which name best expresses the sharing of vital dynamics inside the community?
  • Which name is understandable internationally, across languages and cultures?
  • Which name carries no financial or investment connotation, in line with the WikiDeal narrative of 100% redistribution?
  • Which name stays clearly distinct from cash-out Rewards, the other form of WikiDeal Rewards?

Status

This is a wave 2 draft: it is announced as an upcoming open call and is not yet launched. Scope, awards and deadline are intended to be defined at launch. The general rules of the Open Call would apply, in particular the rules of the game.
