Gov/en/Portal:R&D/Open-Call:Compliance-With-Laws
💡 In simple words: Different countries have different laws. WikiDeal has pages of rules that say who is responsible for what on the platform. This page is a future call for ideas to check these rules with the help of people who know the law, country by country. It is not open yet, and nothing is decided.
🎯 In 20 seconds (scientific summary): Draft open call, under construction, wave 2, not yet launched. WikiDeal policies are adapted from Wikimedia governance and contain global responsibility clauses. This call is intended to invite legal reviews of such clauses: identifying ambiguities and legal risks, examining adaptation to the law of each country, and gathering legal opinions produced by volunteer or semi-volunteer contributors with a legal background, whether concordant or discordant. A first example is the responsibility clause of the Terms of Use. Scope, awards and deadline are to be defined at launch.

What this call is intended to be about
WikiDeal policies are largely adapted from Wikimedia governance and contain global clauses about the responsibilities of users. These clauses raise a challenge: they are written once, globally, but they would apply to users living under the law of many different countries. This creates ambiguities and potential legal risks that deserve a careful review.
A first example (there would be others): the responsibility clause of the Terms of Use, which states that users are legally responsible for their edits and contributions, their contracts, their interactions with other users and their reuse of published content. To what extent such a global clause holds in each jurisdiction is an open question.
This draft call is intended to invite legal opinions (avis de droit) produced by volunteer or semi-volunteer contributors with a legal background. Concordant and discordant opinions would both be welcome: the goal is a documented, plural view of how these global policies of responsibilities would be adapted to the law of each country.
Status
This is a wave 2 draft: it is announced as an upcoming open call and is not yet launched. Scope, awards and deadline are intended to be defined at launch. The general rules of the Open Call would apply, in particular the rules of the game.
