Gov/en/Portal:Meta/Language-Policy
💡 In simple words: WikiDeal pages exist first in English. Little by little, they would also exist in French, Spanish and other languages. This page explains a simple rule: the English page is the original, and the pages in other languages are copies that may be a little older. Every translated page shows a link to its English original.
🎯 In 20 seconds (scientific summary): This page proposes the working rule for languages on the WikiDeal wiki. The English version is the reference version and is intended to always be updated first; versions in other languages are generally less advanced. Every translated page is intended to display a notice linking to the English reference version, mentioning that the English version is authoritative and may be more recent. Multilingual coverage is intended for all governance and policy content; the Markets space stays in English only in a first phase. Alerts on outdated translations are under study.
Language policy (working rule)
The English version is the reference
For now, the working rule on this wiki is the following:
- English first. All content is written and updated in English first. The English version is the reference version and is authoritative in case of doubt or contradiction.
- Translations follow. Versions in other languages (such as French or Spanish) are generally less advanced than the English version.
- Always link the reference. Every translated page is intended to display, at the top, a notice with a link to the English reference version, mentioning that the English version is authoritative and may be more recent than the translation.
Scope: where multilingual applies
- Governance, policies and general content: intended to become multilingual progressively (French and probably Spanish first).
- Markets (marketplaces): English only in a first phase. Multilingual marketplaces are intended to come later, notably with the deployment of the platform in different markets.
Updates and outdated translations
Because English is always updated first, a translation can become outdated. The intended mechanism is under study:
- each translated page would mention which English revision it is based on;
- when the English reference page is updated, the translated pages would display an alert saying that the English version is more recent, until the translation is updated;
- the maintenance of these alerts is intended to be assisted by the WikiDeal Assistant (AI), under human review.
