Eligibility & Requirements
To ensure quality and accountability, forming a Recognized User Group is intended to require the following. (Note: creation is not yet open — it will come with Prototype 1 Phase 2).
- Founding Members: A working rule proposed is a minimum of 3 active, identified founding members (including at least one coordinator), to prevent abandoned portals. Members must be logged in and identified: a User Group is built on people who take responsibility, not anonymous accounts.
- Clear Purpose and Scope: The group must define a clear purpose, usually tied to operating a specific service portal or thematic area (e.g. babysitting in Geneva, or web design globally).
- Alignment with Principles: The group must agree to WikiDeal's core principles, including AGPL v3 licensing, a non-extractive economic model, and compliance with applicable laws.
The Recognition Process
- Prepare: Gather your founding members and define your scope.
- Apply: Submit your proposal for a portal.
- Board of Audit review: The Board of Audit reviews the application for alignment with WikiDeal's principles. The review is meant to stay flexible and fluid, not a fixed waiting period.
- Endorsement & Launch: Once endorsed, the User Group gets its dedicated portal, autonomous treasury tracking, and voting rights in WikiDeal governance — and, where the use case is taken up, the Foundation develops its smart app.
This model goes in the same direction as the Wikimedia Foundation's "recognized user groups" (lightweight requirements, at least 3 active members, agreement to shared principles, review by a committee), adapted to the WikiDeal context.
