Welcome to the WikiDeal User Groups hub. This page is the entry point for everything about user groups: what they are, who they are for, how they work, and how to create or join one.
What is a user group?
User groups are collectives of users gathering around shared interests to participate in the WikiDeal ecosystem. They can focus on the topics they like, for example on specific markets, use cases, geographies, demographics, ethical considerations, technical issues, etc., or combinations of such factors. User groups are one of the driving forces of WikiDeal, coordinating efforts to improve the ecosystem in different ways.
A user group typically runs a specific portal (for example, babysitting in Geneva, or web design globally) and writes the contracts governing its members. User groups are encouraged to create their own wiki page using the User group: namespace and use it as a tool and dashboard for planning, acting and communicating. Who are user groups for?
User groups are envisioned to include:
- Transversal groups serving all users — such as arbitration or market incubators;
- National chapters — adapted to each country's legislation;
- Thematic groups of diverse sizes, mostly geographic — such as babysitting in Geneva, or a federation of transportation users in Europe.
Anyone sharing an interest in a market, use case, region or cause can eventually gather in a user group: service providers and clients who want fair contracts, communities wanting to run their own marketplace, and experts (legal, technical, arbitration) who want to support them.
How do user groups work?

In short:
- Autonomy within global rules — each group sets its own commission rates within WikiDeal's boundaries, manages its own arbitration and community events, while respecting the core WikiDeal principles.
- Revenue — a share of the commission on transactions in their portal, plus optional bonding curve funding rounds and Open Call grants.
- Recognition — going in the same direction as the Wikimedia Foundation's "recognized user groups" model, groups are reviewed for alignment with WikiDeal principles before receiving a dedicated portal, treasury tracking and voting rights.
- Incubation — the Ynternet.org Foundation can support new groups with legal templates, technical setup, advisors and seed grants.
Current user groups
At this stage, only two user groups exist:
- WikiDeal Steering Committee — currently in constitution, gathering members of the Ynternet.org Foundation council.
- First Wave Open Call respondents — users who create an account and respond to the first wave of the Open Calls.
How to create a user group?

It is currently not possible to create a new user group — but this is coming. The first user groups will be launched and incubated as part of the deliverables of Prototype 1 Phase 2 (once the CHF 200,000 funding milestone is reached). During Phase 1, the core infrastructure is being built and no new user groups will be deployed.
In the meantime, you can read the Creation rules to prepare: requirements (minimum 3 identified founding members, clear purpose, alignment with WikiDeal principles) and the recognition process (Board of Audit review).
How to join a user group?
The simplest way to get involved today is to create an account and respond to the first wave of the Open Calls. Joining procedures for future user groups will be published with Prototype 1 Phase 2.
